Privacy Policy for Directory Tree Builder
Last Updated: July 15, 2026
Introduction
Welcome to Directory Tree Builder ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information
when you use our application on iOS, Android, macOS, or Linux.
By using Directory Tree Builder, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Directory scans: Folder structures, paths, and file/folder names discovered when you choose a local folder or remote path to scan
- Saved trees: Tree builds you keep in the library (names, counts, dates, favorites, and related metadata)
- Remote credentials (optional): SMB and/or SFTP host, username, password, and related settings you enter in Settings
- Support messages: Information you send if you contact us for help
Information Stored Locally
- Library file: Saved trees are stored on your device (for example as
tree_library.json in the app documents folder)
- Remote settings: SMB/SFTP credentials are stored on your device (for example as
remote_settings.json). Passwords are stored in plaintext on device and are not included in library exports
- We do not require you to create a Funny Bear Apps cloud account to use core features
Network Access
- SMB / SFTP: When you use remote scanning, the app connects to hosts you configure on your network or the internet. Directory listings and scan results are processed on your device
- Local-only scans do not require remote credentials
Permissions
- Files / folders: To pick and scan directories you select
- Local network / internet: To browse and scan SMB or SFTP hosts you configure
- Photo library (iOS): May be requested by the system file picker framework; Directory Tree Builder does not use your photo library as a core feature
You can revoke permissions in system settings; some features may stop working if access is denied.
How We Use Your Information
- Build, display, save, copy, and export directory trees you request
- Remember your library, favorites, and remote connection settings on your device
- Respond to support requests you send us
Data Storage and Security
- Core app data remains on your device unless you export or share files yourself
- Treat remote credentials carefully; anyone with access to your device may be able to read saved settings
- Use trusted networks when connecting over SMB or SFTP
Your Rights and Choices
- Delete individual trees or clear library data from within the app
- Change or remove remote credentials in Settings
- Export or import library JSON files under your control
- Uninstall the app to remove local data (subject to how your OS retains leftover files)
Children's Privacy
Our app is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date when we do. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
