Privacy Policy for GBear
Last Updated: July 15, 2026
Introduction
Welcome to GBear ("we," "our," or "us"). GBear includes a Mac application (the game library and streaming host)
and an optional companion app for iOS and Android. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use these apps.
By using GBear or the companion app, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Library and emulator data: Game titles, paths, emulator profiles, folder settings, and related preferences you configure on your Mac
- Optional credentials: ScreenScraper API credentials you enter for metadata and cover art (stored locally on your Mac)
- Companion settings: Controller mappings, appearance choices, shortcuts, and host IP settings stored on your phone
- Support messages: Information you send if you contact us for help
Information Stored Locally
- Mac app: Library games, emulator profiles, and path settings are stored locally with SwiftData under Application Support on your Mac
- Companion app: Pairing and streaming preferences, controller bindings, and appearance settings are stored on your device
- Cover art cache: Downloaded or selected cover images may be cached on your Mac for offline display
Information Collected Automatically
- Local network streaming: When you stream, the Mac and companion exchange video, audio, and input over your LAN. This traffic stays on your network; we do not operate a cloud relay for gameplay streams
- Optional local logs: Diagnostic stream or scrape logs may be written on your devices for troubleshooting. These are under your control
- Device and OS context: Standard platform information needed to run the apps on your hardware
Third-Party Services
Depending on features you use, GBear may contact:
-
ScreenScraper
Purpose: Optional game metadata and cover art lookup using credentials you provide
Data shared: Information needed for lookups (for example ROM hashes, filenames, and system identifiers) according to ScreenScraper’s API
Privacy Policy: Review ScreenScraper’s terms and privacy information on their website
-
Epic Games Launcher (local only)
Purpose: Optional import of installed Epic games by reading local launcher manifests on your Mac
Data: Processed locally; we do not use in-app OAuth with Epic
Permissions
Mac App
- Screen Recording: Used to capture desktop video and system audio when streaming to the companion
- Accessibility: Used to play back mouse and keyboard input received from the companion during a stream
- File access: Used to scan game folders, launch games, and manage cover art you choose
Companion App
- Local network: Used to discover and communicate with the Mac streaming host on your LAN
- Notifications (Android): Optional stream session controls such as Stop, Swap, Controller, and Shortcuts
You can revoke permissions in system settings; streaming or library features that depend on them may stop working.
How We Use Your Information
- Provide the game library, emulator launch, metadata, and LAN streaming features
- Remember your preferences, mappings, and host settings on your devices
- Respond to support requests you send us
- Improve stability when you choose to share diagnostic information with us
Data Storage and Security
- Core library and companion data remain on your devices unless you export or share them
- Streaming uses your local network; use trusted Wi‑Fi and keep your Mac firewall rules in mind for the streaming ports
- We do not require a Funny Bear Apps cloud account for core GBear features
Your Rights and Choices
- Edit or delete library entries and settings within the apps
- Clear ScreenScraper credentials and scraped metadata from the Mac app
- Uninstall the apps to remove local data (subject to how your OS retains leftover files)
- Decline optional ScreenScraper or streaming features
Children's Privacy
Our apps are not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date when we do. Continued use of the apps after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
